Who God Says I Am
Who God Says I Am
As promised, here is my sermon from Sunday that I didn’t get to preach. God had different plans for us but the message is still true and I am writing today to share it with you. Let me begin by asking you a few bible questions. How many crosses were there on Golgotha the day Jesus was crucified? How many people died that day? How many went to heaven with Jesus that day? How do we know these things are true? I am pretty sure most would respond “Because the Bible Says So” and you would be correct. So, here is my question for you today. If you can believe the questions I just asked you if they are true and you said yes, why is it so hard to believe all the amazing things God says about you? After all, they are all in the Bible.
I am going to share a bunch of verses with you today that I hope and pray you don’t just believe that they are true. My prayer today is that you believe they are true for you! If I was to put a title on this it would be, “Who God Says I Am”.
*I am alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:4-5). “that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!).”
*I am complete in Him Who is the head over all rule and authority—of every angelic and earthly power (Colossians 2:10). “So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”
*I am free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). “And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”
*I am free from oppression, and will not live in fear (Isaiah 54:14). “You will be secure under a government that is just and fair. Your enemies will stay far away. You will live in peace, and terror will not come near.”
*I have the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
*I have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16; Philippians 2:5). “For, “Who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”
Philippians 2:5, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had”
*I am born of God, and the evil one does not touch me (1 John 5:18). “We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them.”
*I am holy and without blame before Him in love (Ephesians 1:4; 1 Peter 1:16). “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
1 Peter 1:16, “For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”
*The Spirit of God, who is greater than the enemy in the world, lives in me (1 John 4:4). “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”
*I have received abundant grace and the gift of righteousness and reign in life through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17). “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.”
*I have received the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus, the eyes of my heart enlightened, so that I know the hope of having life in Christ (Ephesians 1:17-18). “asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.”
*I have received the power of the Holy Spirit and He can do miraculous things through me. (Mark 16:17-18; Luke 10:17-19). These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
Luke 10:17-19, “17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!” 18 “Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! 19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”
*I am merciful, I do not judge others, and I forgive quickly. As I do this by God’s grace, He blesses my life (Luke 6:36-38). “36 You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. 37 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
*I am renewed in the knowledge of God and no longer want to live in my old ways or nature before I accepted Christ (Colossians 3:9-10). “Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.”
*God supplies all of my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). “19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
*In all circumstances I live by faith in God and His shield extinguishs all the flaming darts (attacks) of the enemy (Ephesians 6:16). “16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.”
*I can do whatever God calls me to do in life through Christ Jesus who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13). “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
*I am chosen by God who called me out of the darkness of sin and into the light and life of Christ so I can proclaim the excellence and greatness of who He is (1 Peter 2:9). “9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
*I am born again—spiritually transformed, renewed and set apart for God’s purpose—through the living and everlasting word of God (1 Peter 1:23). “23 For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.”
*I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ to do good works that He has prepared for me to do (Ephesians 2:10). “10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
*I am a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun.”
*In Christ, I am dead to sin—my relationship to it is broken—and alive to God—living in unbroken fellowship with Him (Romans 6:11). “So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.”
*The light of God’s truth has shone in my heart and given me knowledge of salvation through Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6). “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.”
*As I hear God’s Word, I set my heart do what it says and I am blessed in my actions (James 1:22, 25). “22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” James 1:25, “But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”
*I am a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17). I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me (Romans 8:37). “17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”
Romans 8:37, “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”
*I overcome the enemy of my soul by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony (Revelation 12:11). “11 And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.”
*I have everything I need to live a godly life and am equipped to live in His divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4). “3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.”
*I am an ambassador for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). “I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people (1 Peter 2:9). So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
1 Peter 2:9, “9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
*I am the righteousness of God—I have right standing with Him—in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”
*My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit; I belong to Him (1 Corinthians 6:19). “19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself.”
*I am chosen by God, forgiven and justified through Christ. I have a compassionate heart, kindness, humility, meekness and patience (Romans 8:33; Colossians 3:12). “33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.”
Colossians 3:12, “12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
*I am redeemed—forgiven of all my sins and made clean—through the blood of Christ (Ephesians 1:7). “7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”
*I am redeemed from the curse of sin, (Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Galatians 3:13). “13 But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”
*I am called to live a holy life by the grace of God and to declare His praise in the world (Psalm 66:8; 2 Timothy 1:9). “8 Let the whole world bless our God and loudly sing his praises.”
2 Timothy 1:9, “For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus”
*I am strengthened with all power according to His glorious might (Colossians 1:11). “11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy,”
*I have been rescued from the domain and the power of darkness and brought into God’s kingdom (Colossians 1:13). “13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son”
*I am saved by God’s grace, raised up with Christ and seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:5-6; Colossians 2:12). “5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”
Colossians 2:12, “12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.”
*My life is rooted in my faith in Christ and I overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done for me (Colossians 2:7). “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
*I am greatly loved by God (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:4; Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 1:4).
John 3:16, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Ephesians 2:4, “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much.”
Colossians 3:12, “12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
1 Thessalonians 1:4, “4 We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people.”
*I press on each day to fulfill God’s plan for my life because I live to please Him (Philippians 3:14). “14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us”
*I am not ruled by fear because the Holy Spirit lives in me and gives me His power, love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
*Christ lives in me, and I live by faith in Him and His love for me (Galatians 2:20). “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
*I humbly submit myself to God, and the devil flees from me as I resist him in the strength that God provides (James 4:7). “7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
*I am the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13) “13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.”
*I am the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-15). “14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.”
If you have read this far just know I am very proud of you! Remember, you are not who you think you are and you are not who the world believes you are. You are who God says you are! Not only are all these verses true, if you are in Christ Jesus today each and every one of these verses is true for you. Read them often, meditate on them even longer, but most of all, enjoy them!
“What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen—Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!”
Psalm 8:4–9
