The Nudge

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.”

Zecheriah 4:6

Studying the book of Acts and how the Holy Spirit goes about getting our attention we discover one of His favorite methods is what I like to call, “The Nudge”. Every believer gets them but not every believer responds to them. My hope in reading this today is that you do respond. “The Nudge” is that prompting of God, like that still small voice we read about in 1 Kings 19 where God ever so subtly is moving us to do something that when we do it brings glory to His name and most often a blessing to us as well as those He is leading us too. We learn quickly when we respond to, “The Nudge” that obedience is its own reward.

Can you recall the last time God “nudged” you to do something? He primarily gets our attention through His Word and the leading of His Spirit in our lives in practical ways. As an example, has the Lord ever brought someone to your mind, seemingly out of nowhere? What do you do? Often times we do nothing, chalking it up to a past memory. Yet, every once in a while we act on those “nudges” and instead of letting it go we reach out to the person and say something like, “I was thinking about you so I thought I would call to check on you and see how you were doing” only to learn that our connection was exactly what the person needed in that moment in time.

How many times in a conversation like that has the person who you were “nudged” to reach out needed help or was struggling and tells you that your call was “perfect timing”? Does God work like that? Absolutely, and it happens all the time. It’s not so much the big things that mean the most in life, or do the most good. It’s the little things we do each day in obedience to “The Nudge” that mean the most. Remember the words to Elijah in 1 Kings 19:11-12 and how the Lord “nudged” him, “Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.”

God is in the “nudge” so be ready today when the Holy Spirit “nudges” you remembering…

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God”

Romans 8:14

I LOVE YOU!
