It's Personal
“1 O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!”
Psalm 139:1-6
Teaching through “Favorite Chapters of the Bible” we came to Psalm 139 and it’s easy from reading it David was overwhelmed by the knowledge that God has a personal interest in us. I don’t know the last time you really sat down and thought about what the Lord thinks of you? I hope you are aware today that you are always on His mind. It’s one thing to understand Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” and its another thing to know that God is working all things together for good every moment of each and every day concerning you.
Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 10:28-31, “28 “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. 30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” Think about that for a moment, you don’t even know how many hairs you have on your own head, but God does!
The point is this, God is interested in you! It’s personal to Him. He loves you and yes He has a plan for your life. He has withheld nothing from you. After all, if He would give us His one and only Son would He not freely give us all things! Think about that today like David did when he penned Psalm 139. What David came to understand your heavenly Father wants you to know today too… it’s personal!
7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! 8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. 9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. 11 I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— 12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. 13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”
