If Only

“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life”

2 Peter 1:3

What I am about to tell you could get me killed by manufacturers and advertisement companies alike. What if I told you that you could have it all, would you believe me? Truth is, you already have it all. You don’t need to ever buy another thing in order to find fulfillment in this life. Commercials for the most part are a lie. Today you and I will be bombarded with literally hundreds if not thousands of advertisements trying to convince us how much better our lives could be “if only” we purchased whatever it is that we are being sold.

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and you are still searching daily for things to make you feel whole or to satisfy some longing in your heart I want to encourage you to stop. Why are you looking for something you already have? What I mean is there is nothing you will ever possess in this life that will add anything to your life that you don’t already have in Christ Jesus. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing this life can offer you can ever satisfy you at a deeper level than the place Jesus Christ already occupies in your heart.

Listen to the apostle Peter in the book that bears his name, “We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins” (2 Peter 1:3-9).

Peter writes to remind us we already have everything and I mean everything you can possibly need to grow into the person God created you to be. Stop buying into the lie that what you need is something or someone other than what a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ will provide you because the truth is, you don’t. Remind yourself and others today that everything we could possibly need to live and enjoy this life to the fullest God has already provided, “if only” we would look to God in Christ because Jesus satisfies!

“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.”

1 Timothy 6:6–8

I LOVE YOU!
