Think On These Things

“O Sovereign LORD! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!”

Jeremiah 32:17-18

Most of us if we were honest want answers for most of life’s questions of faith that the Lord in His infinite wisdom has chosen not to answer. I remember a quote from a few years back that said, “Answers to our ‘why’ questions are nothing more than substitutions for trust” and I believe it’s true. More than answering our why questions throughout our lives the Lord invites us to place our hope and trust in Him. When we do He gives us peace, and not just any old kind of peace but a peace so deep that it surpasses our understanding.

The reason God offers us peace that surpasses our understanding is for the simple fact that His ways are high above our ways, beyond our finding out. More important than us knowing the why’s of life that would only create more stress on us if we did know, God offers us peace instead which is far better for us in both the short and long term. We are so unlike God especially when it comes to dealing with problems. We tend to focus on how to avoid or eliminate them where God sees them as a means to an end. God never promised to make our problems go away but what He did promise us was that He would be with us every step of the way during our dark days, when the trials of life seek to overwhelm us.

Consider Moses and the children of Israel. When the Egyptians were chasing them and the mountains had them hemmed in on both sides and the Red Sea was in front of them they were overcome with fear and doubt and worry. They thought for sure they were dead. As Moses looked to God and trusted Him, God did the seemingly impossible. He caused the waters of the Red Sea to roll back where it must have looked like an aquarium on both sides as the children of Israel crossed over on dry land. God didn’t remove the water as you and I most likely would have done, oh no, He parted it. God caused the waters to stand still.

God treats most of the problems you and I face in life like He did the Red Sea. God doesn’t eliminate our troubles and our problems, He promises to part them so we can walk right through them! And best of all, He walks right by our side as we do. So, instead of thinking about the size of your problems today, focus on the size of your God. Instead of thinking about what can go wrong, think about what can go right and what your life will be like when your problems are behind you because if you walk with God one day they will be. Take the apostle Paul’s advice and think on these things today!

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

Philippians 4:8

I LOVE YOU!
