Unchanging Love
“The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
Jeremiah 31:3
A middle aged couple went for counseling where the wife complained that her husband didn’t love her. The pastor listened as the wife explained that her husband never says, “I love you” to his wife since the day they were married. The pastor turned to the husband and said, “Is what your wife saying true?” The husband responded without hesitation, “absolutely”. The pastor was curious as to why in almost 40 years of marriage the man had not told his wife he loved her. The husband said, “On the day we were married I told her I loved her and if in the future anything changed I would tell her.”
God’s love for His children is unchanging. It’s not based on what we do or don’t do. His love is based on His character, and because God is love time or circumstance does not change it. If God only told us once that He loved us, that would have been enough but all throughout the Bible God shows us His love. Consider this today, “God cannot love us any more than He does today. He does not love us more when we are good and He does not love us any less when we do wrong.” His love is unchanging, His love is secure! The love of God in Christ Jesus is the greatest love of all!
