Show and Tell
“And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:4–5
Reading Acts chapter 8 reminds me of a friend of mine who is a commercial brush pilot in Alaska. He is always inviting me to go with him so I can visit places where not a single human being has ever set foot before. Philip is heading to Samaria to share the good news of the gospel regarding Jesus Christ after Stephen was martyred and persecution forced believers to leave Jerusalem.
Pick up the story in Acts 8, “4 But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went. 5 Philip, for example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah. 6 Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did. 7 Many evil spirits were cast out, screaming as they left their victims. And many who had been paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was great joy in that city.”
We live in a world full of people who have yet to hear the good news of the gospel. They will never hear unless you and I are wiling to go and to tell them. One of the things I learn from reading about Phillips life is he didn’t wait for people to ask him about the promised Messiah, he went with the intention to find people who had never heard about Jesus and show and tell them. Wherever he went he was looking to show and tell people about Jesus and the power Jesus has to heal and to set people free.
Don’t believe the lie of the enemy today thinking people don’t want to hear about Jesus because they do. People want to be healed today as much as they did in Jesus day. People want to be set free from the bondage of sin and death just as much as they did 2,000 years ago. Believe in the same results today that happened back then. When Jesus touches peoples lives, great joy comes to their lives and to the city in which they live. Spread the joy today as you show and tell the world about Jesus wherever you go!
“Good news from far away is like cold water to the thirsty”
