It's Today

“This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it”

Psalm 118:24

Imagine if you can what it must have been like for Joshua and the children of Israel as thy set out to enter into the Promised Land. We pick up the story in Joshua 3:1, “Early the next morning Joshua and all the Israelites left Acacia Grove and arrived at the banks of the Jordan River, where they camped before crossing. Three days later the Israelite officers went through the camp, giving these instructions to the people: “When you see the Levitical priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD your God, move out from your positions and follow them. Since you have never traveled this way before, they will guide you. Stay about a half mile behind them, keeping a clear distance between you and the Ark. Make sure you don’t come any closer.”

They had no idea what to expect and every day would require tremendous faith. As the officers went through the camp of the Israelites they instructed the people to keep their eyes on the priests who transported the ark of the covenant which represented the presence of God. The officers reminded the children of Israel of what I want to remind you today. Since you have never traveled this way before keep your eyes on the Lord as He promises to lead you and guide you. The Israelites were instructed to keep their eyes on the priests as they transported the ark but not to get to close.

We have it so much better today than they did back then. Today you and I are invited to draw close to the Lord, to come as close as we want to get. And better still, God isn’t leading us from a distance, He lives in our heart. He can’t get any closer to us than He is in the life of a child of God. What an advantage we have today then as we walk with God.

Jim Harbaugh, the head coach for the NFL Los Angeles Chargers did an interview recently where he enthusiastically responded to a reporters question with, “It’s not just another day, it’s today!” Think about that. It’s not just another day, it’s today! The book of Lamentations echoes this same thought when it declares, “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” (Lam 3:22-23).

Yes, loved one, today is a new day, a day full of possibilities of fresh starts and new beginnings. Because of Jesus and His shed blood on Calvary’s Cross your past can be forgiven and your future secure and most important, today is manageable! Look to God, keep your eyes on Him and remember, “it’s not just another day, it’s today!”

“And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”

Hebrews 12:1–2

I LOVE YOU!
