Flying Napkins

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.”

Revelation 19:7

Jesus reminds His disciples in Matthew 10:29-31 that their Heavenly Father is very much aware of them and that each of God’s children are valuable to Him. So valuable that God has taken time to count all the hairs upon your head! What Jesus is seeking to make clear is this, never doubt for a second if God loves you and cares for you because He does! Listen to what Jesus says, “What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”

This verse came to my mind as I was thinking about how God is so good, so faithful and so kind to us. I was serving the food line at our churches 3rd Of July celebration so I could greet everyone who came through to get food. As person after person filed their way past I kept thanking the Lord for how He multiples what we offer to Him. We never ran out of food even though the number of people coming through the line kept growing and growing. As I was scooping containers of potato and macaroni salad into bigger pans to save space and make it easier to serve as well as keep the line moving quickly, I ended up with a big ol glob of macaroni salad on the back of my hand. I might have been tempted to lick it off but I don’t like macaroni salad.

As I stood there looking around thinking of my options as to how to clean my hand I spoke to the Lord under my breath saying, “Lord, I sure could use a napkin about now” almost half kidding. No sooner did I mutter the words that out of nowhere right in front of my eyes a napkin comes floating in the wind towards me at eye level and then lands right on the ground at my feet. I literally laughed out loud and said, “thank you Jesus!” I couldn’t stop thinking about that moment and how it brought so much joy to my heart. To be completely honest it’s not like God does something like that every day in my life. In all truthfulness, I can’t recall God ever moving that quickly to any request I have made. At least that I was a ware of in the moment like when He brought me this napkin. All I know is I had this overwhelming sense that God cared about me.

God might not send a flying napkin your way today but I promise you as God’s Word is true, He loves and cares about you. Who else has taken the time to make themselves aware of the number of hairs upon your head? Exactly! If you need more proof just look to the Cross. On the Cross God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us! God loves you so much He sent Jesus Christ to die for you, in your place so that you could always have a place with Him.

God sent me a paper napkin the other day as a reminder that one day soon Jesus will be providing each of us with a napkin as we come and sit with Him as the Bride of Christ at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Oh the love you will feel and know in that moment when you realize in the deepest way God really does love and care about you. So much so, He chose you!

“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”

Ephesians 2:6

I LOVE YOU!
