Just Relax

“And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it.”

Revelation 4:2

Not to sound depressing or cynical, but do you to have this sense that something is going terribly wrong in the world today? It seems like anything that can go wrong is going wrong, or in the words of Jesus, “everything that can be shaken is being shaken.” Just know if you feel that way you are not alone. No matter what you are thinking or how you are feeling, I have some great news for you today. Jesus is in control! Jesus isn’t making all the bad things happen in the world today but He and only He can stop everything bad and bring it all under control and one day sooner than we might think, He promises He will. Now the question begs to be asked, what do we do until then?

Studying Revelation 4 with a group of earlier risers at church this morning we were discussing the events that surround the “last days” or “end times” the Bible speaks of. You know the stuff, the wars and rumors of war, famine and pestilence, the lack of love people will have for others and how lawlessness will become rampant all around the world. We are seeing it with our own eyes. Some would say these things have been happening since the Fall of man and that is true but the magnitude is unquestionably greater today than ever before in the history of the world and is felt globally, not in just some far recess of the planet.

Today I want to remind you what I shared with our study group before they left today. This truth is critical to your success, your health and mental and spiritual well being and how you will ultimately approach life here and now. It was Corrie Ten Boom who captured my thought best. She said, “when I look around I get confused, when I look down I get depressed, but when I look up my hearts at rest.” Thats it, thats what John was seeing and what he wrote down his revelation from Jesus for us to know.

John writes first and foremost for us to remember that there is a throne firmly planted in heaven when it seems like all “H, E, double hockey sticks LL” is breaking loose around us. Read what John saw in Revelation 4:2, “I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it.” John saw a throne, God’s throne and He saw someone sitting on it, and that someone being God Himself which is so important for you to never forget. Stay with me.

Yes, it’s Jesus seated on the throne! His work of salvation is finished at the Cross and now everything, and I mean everything is working itself out just as God had said it would all along. The church, the bride of Christ by this time in the book of Revelation is safe with Jesus in heaven, raptured up and taken away so as to not experience the wrath of God which is coming upon the whole earth. Thats what Paul reminds the church of in 1 Thessalonians chapters 4-5. You can read it for yourself today and be comforted in knowing you are safe with Jesus! His throne is in heaven, and history is unfolding just like Jesus promised it would.

Because God is infinite, He is not bound by space or time. He is the Alpha and Omega. He sees the end from the beginning and as the apostle Paul reminds us from God’s vantage point, seated upon His throne, we are already seated in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus! And yet, because we are finite and can only see dimly darkly, we have an invitation from God today. Remember, when life gets crazy and feels like it’s out of control, God is firmly seated on His throne. And because God is in control and His invitation to us is to run to Him, to come boldly before Him in our time of need! What am I saying? I am saying He’s available, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year! So, just relax!

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Hebrews 4:16

I LOVE YOU!
