Make Sure The Switch Is "ON"

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

Matthew 5:16

It’s not your job or mine to make Jesus famous in the truest sense. Jesus is and will always be famous regardless of what you and I or anyone else might think. We cannot forget that God is immutable meaning He needs nothing and no one. God is completely self contained within Himself. Making Jesus famous in the truest sense is our privilege in this life, an opportunity each day to show the world what Jesus is doing in us. The light shines from within and in the same way a flashlights brilliance is determined by its power source the same a true believers life’s brilliance is determined by the Holy Spirits presence within them.

Matthew 5:14-16 puts it like this, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

Because we live in a dark world that is getting progressively darker day by day our light shines that much brighter and serves as a means of helping those who are in darkness to find their way out. It’s impossible to mistake light for darkness as light always shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome the light. Walk into a dark room and light a match and you will find even the smallest light has the ability to penetrate the darkness. In the same way the presence of God in the heart and life of a child of God is just as unmistakeable in an unbelieving world. The darkness of the world cannot overcome the light of God in the life of a Christian.

Sadly, as John’s gospel teaches us in chapter 1, some will prefer (love the darkness) rather than the light because their deeds are evil but the good news is those who are trying to find their way out of the dark will come to the light and it is for their sake we set out each day with the hope that those who are in darkness will come to God and glorify Him. Lets not forget our lives are not our own, we have been bought at a price and just as Jesus came to seek and to save that which is lost, we have been chosen in Christ Jesus to shine our light for Him with the same hope.

Charge your batteries today friends by spending time in prayer and in God’s Word. Don’t forget it’s the presence of God in the power of His Holy Spirit in us that causes us to shine. The light within us is His light. Your job and mine is to make sure the on switch is in the on position.

“This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
