All Aboard!

“So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Matthew 8:27

Have you ever considered that our God thrives in chaos? Not on chaos but in the midst of it. The worse the situation appears, the more at ease God is. Read it for yourself. Lukes version of this story makes the point well, “Now it happened, on a certain day, that He (Jesus) got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!” (Luke 8:22-25).

You can easily gloss over the story and miss the whole point. Jesus questioned their faith for the simple fact He had said, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” In Jesus way to thinking what that meant was everyone in the boat was going to the other side of the lake, period. The disciples didn’t understand the surety of Jesus words and when the wind began to blow and the seas roared the disciples forgot all about what Jesus had said and instead they focused on their circumstances. Can you relate?

We have what the Bible calls “sure and precious” promises of God that we can take to the bank as God’s word is as good as gold, actually better. There is an old saying, “if God said it that settles it”. I have no idea how frantic your life might be today friend but I do know this. If God isn’t panicking over your situation why are you? Are you aware that in your Bible there are literally thousands of promises that God makes to us, and each one is faithful and can be counted on as God is faithful to His word for He can’t deny Himself. Many scholars believe there are roughly 8,810 promises in the Bible. Thats a lot of promises to hold onto.

Instead of worrying when the storms of life hit, try reading God’s Word instead. It’s the best way we go from worry to worship, by remembering who God is and the promises He has made to us. Don’t forget it’s the voice of God that calms the seas. Let God’s Word calm the storms of your life. Don’t forget, it’s Jesus who thrives on the chaos. God seems to do His best work when to everyone else life is out of control. Let His Word speak to you. Here’s just one verse to keep in your heart and mind when you face the storms of life. It goes like this…

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love {kindness} for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”

Isaiah 54:10

I LOVE YOU!
