Personal Trainer

I rediscovered a truth I have always known but too easily forget by my actions, “Two are better than one”. The book of Ecclesiastes offers us all some great advice as we head into a new year. If you have a goal you would like to achieve or a dream to fulfill listen to the wisdom of Solomon found in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

I was thinking about that scripture today and thanking the Lord for my wife and her willingness to join me in my quest to live a healthier life. She’s like my personal trainer in that I’ve rediscovered it’s much easier with her help than I could ever do alone. This past month we have made some changes in our diet in that we have determined to eat better and to get consistent exercise, something we have done in the past together but somehow we let slip away.

Ecclesiastes 4 reveals a profound truth in that when two people determine to work together for their common good, God binds their efforts together and something synergistic occurs. It’s as if the Lord Himself becomes their personal trainer and binds Himself to them allowing them to accomplish far more together than they ever could apart. It’s no wonder then that the same word for the Holy Spirit being our “Helper” in John 15:26 is the same word “Helper” God uses in Genesis 2:18 to describe the role a woman would play in her husbands life as his helper. We all need a personal trainer and in my case God knew I needed two!

I LOVE YOU!
