Beautifully Wrapped

“And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”

Luke 2:12

I remember growing up and checking out all the neatly wrapped presents under the tree to see if any had my name on it. I am not very good at wrapping Christmas presents. In all truthfulness there is nothing neat about my gift wrapping skills. I do attempt to wrap my wife’s gift but usually I just end up folding all the extra paper and taping it up at both ends of the box. Not a pretty site but it gets the job done and besides, if my wife is careful she can unwrap my gifts and then keep the paper for next year since I use so much. Some people take gift wrapping to a whole new level. To them gift wrapping is a form of art that is done so well you almost hate to open the present and tear the paper.

The greatest gift the world has ever received is the baby Jesus when He was born that first Christmas Day. Because everything God does is done to perfection when Jesus was born the Bible says the baby was “wrapped snugly”. Because Jesus is a gift, God made sure painstaking care was given to the baby Jesus. Even the way he was wrapped in swaddling clothes there in the manger was a sign for people to distinguish the Christ child from other children much in the same way my poorly wrapped presents are easily recognizable from all the beautifully wrapped gifts under the tree.

Yes, loved one, Jesus was and is and will always be God’s gift to the world. Jesus you can say is the gift that keeps on giving. May all the gifts you see wrapped under the tree this year remind you of the painstaking love and care of God in that if God would go so far as to make sure Jesus was wrapped snuggly how much more will ensure our care in this world too… Merry Christmas!

I LOVE YOU!
