Wise Men (And Women) Still Seek Jesus

“Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:1–2

Maybe you didn’t know this but the wise men who came to worship the Christ child were not present at Jesus birth but arrived days, weeks, months or even a couple of years later according to the Bible. That should encourage you and I who were not present at Jesus birth but proves the old saying true, “Wise men (and women) still seek Jesus”.

The magi from “the East” most likely came from modern-day Iran some 800 miles or so away to see Jesus. The magi most likely had read the book of Daniel which included his “70 weeks” prophecy concerning the coming of Messiah or maybe the magi had studied the book of Numbers where it speaks of a “star coming out of Jacob.” One thing is for sure, the magi were looking up and saw the “Star of Bethlehem” which they referred to as “His star.” The star guided them to Jerusalem where they continued to seek out the King of the Jews and were directed to Bethlehem where they found Jesus.

So, what do wise men (and women) do once they find Jesus! They rejoice! The wise men were filled with joy in the presence of Jesus and they worshipped Him. Wise men don’t come empty handed as demonstrated by their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh which they brought for the newborn King and laid before Him as they bowed in worship. When it’s time to go wise men walk in wisdom, obeying God, not man as “they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.”

A great lesson to learn if you want to be a wise man or woman this Christmas. Just do what the wise men did. They read God’s Word and they followed it. They determined to seek Jesus wherever “His Star” would lead them. They gave gifts worthy of a King. They humbled themselves before Him in worship and they put their trust in God and not in man. Yes, loved one, “Wise men (and women) still seek Jesus!

I LOVE YOU!
