The Nudge
The Nudge
“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.”
Zecheriah 4:6
One of my favorite things about the Christmas season is what I like to call, “The Nudge”. Every believer gets them but not everyone responds to them. My hope in reading this today is that we do. “The nudge” is that prompting of God, like that still small voice we read about in 1 Kings 19 where God ever so subtly is moving us to do something that when we do it brings glory to His name and many times a blessing to those He is leading us. For the believer obedience is its own reward.
Can you recall the last time God “nudged” you to do something? He primarily gets our attention through His Word and the leading of His Spirit in our lives in practical ways. Has the Lord ever brought someone to your mind, seemingly out of nowhere? What do you do? Often times we do nothing chalking it up to a past memory. Yet, every once in a while we act on those “nudges” and we reach out to the person and say things like “I was thinking about you so I thought I would call to check on you and see how you were doing” only to learn that our connection was exactly what they needed in that moment in time.
How many times in a conversation like that has the person who you were “nudged” to reach out needed help or was struggling and remarks that your call was “perfect timing”? Does God work like that? Yes, and it happens all the time. It’s not so much the big things that mean the most in life, or do the most good. It’s the little things done in obedience to “The Nudge” that the Lord prompts us that mean the most. Remember the words to Elijah in 1 Kings 19:11-12 and how the Lord “nudged” him, “Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.” God is in the “nudge” so let's be ready and don’t miss them this Christmas!
I LOVE YOU!
