How To Find What You Are Looking For

I saw a social media post the other day that grabbed my attention. It said, “Searching for all the right things in all the wrong places.” It stuck with me because I could relate. Maybe you can too as that simple statement summed up perfectly my life of futility before finding Jesus Christ. I would be willing to bet it sums up many other peoples lives too. Jesus has a lot to say to people who are searching, and that’s good news! Matthew 7:13-14 comes to mind where Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” As I think of Jesus words my heart hurts as I realize there are so many people in the world today who are searching for all the right things in all the wrong places.

I read a letter the other day from a mom that illustrates perfectly how we all at times search for the right things in all the wrong places when she told the story of her son who lost his favorite bracelet while grocery shopping. In a panic he retraced their steps all through the store and then the parking lot but it was nowhere to be found. What made matters worse was the desperation this mother could see in her son as he franticly searched for the right thing (the missing bracelet) in all the wrong places. That’s what desperation does. Her little boy was searching in places that would be impossible for the missing bracelet to be since he had it in the store and when he got to the car it was gone. He turned his bedroom upside down in hopes of finding it. He searched everywhere it couldn’t be and just when he thought all hope was lost his mom looked in the grocery bag and low and behold it was there. It had fallen off as he was helping her bag the groceries.

The good news today is God makes a promise that the right place for each of us to search for the right things that will forever satisfy our hearts desire is right by His side, Psalm 16:11 says, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

I LOVE YOU!
