Be The Change

Meeting with a few members of my staff this past week we were discussing modeling, lol. No, not runway models but life change models. A quote that sums up best our discussions is, “be the change you want to see in others”. Jesus calls all of His followers to make disciples and the truth is we all do. Good or bad, someone is watching us and following our lead. Change is never as quick or easy as we would like it to be. The Bible makes clear that love is patient, but if we want the world to make a change we don’t have time to wait any longer, we’ve got to start now. If we are going to make the world a better place we have to be willing to admit there needs to be a change. Thats the biggest step. Not the only step but the hardest one for sure.

I was never a big Michael Jackson fan though I admit I did secretly wish I could do his famous “moon walk”. I did however enjoy his hit song, “man in the mirror” and the words still bring conviction to my own heart. The lyrics that speak to me go like this, “I’m starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways…” The message could not be any clearer as the song continues, “If you want to make the world a better place. Take a look at yourself and then make a change.” How different our world would be today if each of us started with the man or woman in the mirror.

Ask anyone who has ever suffered from addiction or any sin at all and was set free and they will tell you that all lasting change, change that makes a difference is only possible when we stop blaming other people and we start with the man or woman in the mirror. That’s what John the Baptist was saying when he cried out, “repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”. Be the change you wish the world to be. Look in the mirror today and make the change by turning too and trusting Jesus so that like the apostle Paul we can say with confidence, “be imitators of me as I am of Christ.”
