Your Life Lyrics

If you had a to pick a song that best described your life could you think of one? Sadly, at more than one funeral I have officiated the family played the song made famous by Frank Sinatra, “I Did It My Way” to describe the deceased. Last Sunday one of my favorite people on the planet shared with me three songs that he said described his life. I had read the lyrics of the song “Your Gonna Miss This” in my message. The lyrics share a powerful message and serve as a great reminder that we can learn important life lessons from people who have lived longer than we have and who are willing to share both their successes and failures experienced on this journey we call life. My friend picked three songs with me in order were, 1. “Born To Be Wild”. 2. “Can’t Get No Satisfaction”. 3. “It’s All About Jesus”.
My friends song selection reminded me of a sentence from a book I have been reading, “Everyone who has pursued satisfaction in this life apart from God has felt the pain of raging and unfilled desire as well as the pain of desire fulfilled but strangely unsatisfied.” So, let me ask you, is there a song that best fits your life? Would it be a love song or one thats filled with sorrow and pain? The good news today is we can always write a new song, or better put, we can allow God to write us a new song. Solomon wrote 1005 songs and King David is said to have written over 4000 songs, 73 of them we find in the book of Psalms. Over and over again it says, “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:3).
May the Lord help us to remember that our lives were created to be a love song to God, and today is our opportunity to add more lyrics to our own song as we seek and walk with Jesus! Just think, your life is a few lyrics away from becoming a hit song!
