Collect The Spoils
A pastor I enjoy following on social media wrote something that caught my attention, “The angel of death has already passed over! Now is the time to collect the spoils as we advance the kingdom of heaven. There are some who view faith in God as a means of escaping the hostile world in which we live. They come to church with the hope of barring the doors to the world outside not realizing the outside world is who Jesus is equipping and sending us, knowing that our greatest impact is realized when we deliver the message of Jesus Christ.”
As I read that quote I tried to picture the children of Israel during the time of the exodus from Egypt. The angel of death had passed over the homes where the blood of the lamb had been placed over the door and now the Egyptians weren’t just letting the Israelites go, they were according to scripture “driving them out”. The Israelites had to leave so quickly the people took their dough before it was leavened which gave birth to the feast of “Passover” which is celebrated with unleavened bread to commemorate the events in Egypt.
The interesting part of the quote above was the reminder of how God supplies for our needs. No reason to live in fear or worry when surrounded by mayhem. Since the Israelites were in a hurry to leave Egypt they didn’t have time to pack so on their way out of town they asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and clothing and the Egyptians gave them what they asked for. What a great reminder to the church that as we go about sharing how the blood of the Lamb of God still saves those who seek refuge under it God will take care of us and provide for us as we go. We just can’t be afraid to ask. James, the brother of Jesus reminds us, “you have not because you ask not.” Don’t be afraid as you go about serving the Lord today to ask for what you have need of. Remember the words of the apostle Paul, “my God shall supply all of your needs by His riches and glory that are in Christ Jesus!”
I LOVE YOU!
