One Fear

“The LORD is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant.”

Psalm 25:14

The quote boldly proclaimed, “What we fear the most is the area of our lives where we trust God the least” and it caused me to stop and ponder it deeper. I don’t know if you would agree with that statement or not but the more I considered it in my own life the more I realized it is true. The Bible teaches us that there are two kinds of fear. There is healthy fear and unhealthy fear. You know when you are dealing with unhealthy fear when your fear leaves you immobilized, full of doubt and worry afraid unable to move at all. Healthy fear empowers us and guides us in our daily decisions.

The fear of the Lord is the one healthy fear and puts all other fears at rest. Thats why the Lord calls us to fear Him above all else. To fear the Lord is different from other fears in that to fear the Lord is good for us. Good for us, how, you might be thinking? To fear God is to worship Him, to have such a reverence for Him and to be in awe of Him that it impacts everything about your life, from the way you think to the way you live each day.

This might surprise you but are you aware that loving God is the result of fearing Him and not the other way around? Deuteronomy 10:12, and verses 20-21 tell us, “And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name. He is your praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.” So then, God Himself tells us that reverential fear is the foundation for our relationship with Him which leads to our walking in His ways and, voila, yes, even loving Him.

Don’t forget the exhortation of Proverbs 9:10 which says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

I LOVE YOU!
