You've Got This!

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

Galatians 6:9

Getting back on my bike after a serious illness I found myself far from home and hoping I had enough strength to make it back. I wasn’t worried about my speed, I just was hoping to make it home without having to call my wife to pick me up. The words of Charles Spurgeon came to mind who once said, “by perseverance the snail reached the ark”. I love the imagery that thought produced as I inched along. I wasn’t just relieved when I pulled up in my driveway, I was happy too. No matter how slow I went, I finished.

It has been well noted by behavioral scientists that the most important characteristic to success is perseverance. Often times in business and in life we quit too soon. It was King Solomon who penned, “I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.” In other words, the best team doesn’t always win. Sometimes it’s just the team or individual that refuses to give up and quit.

Are you going through a tough time today? I’m praying for you. Consider the words of Thomas Edison, the great inventor who remarked regarding failure and perseverance, “I have not failed, I just discovered 10,000 ways it will not work.” C.S. Lewis would say, “There are far far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” The key is to keep going!
