Are You Jesus?

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Galatians 2:20

I read a quote last week that said, “preach to hurting people and you will never lack an audience.” There is truth to that statement and is why I frequently try to remind my own church family that we are all broken people living in a broken world among other broken people. The good news is Jesus came to make us whole! Thats why even though the job market might appear bleak in many parts of the country today and even though small businesses are closing at record pace due to inflation, if you work for Jesus you will never be out of a job as our world is full of people in need of hope. When I say, “work for Jesus” I don’t necessarily mean being a pastor or an employee of an organized church. I simply mean you are a follower of Jesus and you understand that you have been chosen of God to be His ambassador wherever you go.

Being an ambassador of Jesus means that you and I are His representatives every where we go and in everything we do. Simply put, our lives, our words, our actions our attitudes are to be a reflection of Jesus. In the same way Jesus would say, “If you have seen Me you have seen the Father” our hope in this life should be that when people come in contact with us, they would almost mistake us for Jesus or at least we would leave them guessing. I recall a story of a soldier in World War II who purchased some donuts in a small pastry shop in Germany. As the soldier stepped out of the shop with a little brown sack in one hand while eating a donut with the other he passed by a little boy sitting on the sidewalk, alone and hungry. As the soldier walked past the two didn’t speak but their eyes met. The soldier smiled at the boy and continued on a few more steps when he suddenly stopped and turned around. Looking down at the boy the soldier stuck out the bag of donuts and handed them to the boy and then just turned and walked away. The little boy, thankful but somewhat puzzled by the gesture yelled out to the soldier who by this time was a short distance away, “hey mister” and when the soldier turned around toward the child, the little boy asked, “are you Jesus?”

The opportunities are limitless to represent Jesus today, to be ambassadors for Christ in a hurting world. Just look around as you go about your day, needs are all around. Like the apostle Paul, let’s pray and allow the love of Christ to compel us today. You never know what might happen, someone might just ask you when you do, “are you Jesus?”

“For the love of Christ compels us…”

2 Corinthians 5:14

I LOVE YOU!
