Hand in Hand

“My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.”

John 10:29

As my wife and I celebrated our anniversary this past weekend one of the things I enjoyed most was walking with her hand in hand. Her hand fits snugly within mine like a hand in a glove, like it was made just for me. Holding hands can convey a lot of messages, love, security, connection, safety, and enjoyment. Think about this. The words, “Take My Hand” have been used in some of the best movies. “Take My Hand” moments happen any time someone is about to slip and fall off a cliff, into a molten lava pit, out of the way of a speeding car or to be saved from a run away train and someone tries to take their hand. The suspense builds as there is no certainty that their hands will even reach. And if by some miracle they do grasp hands the lapse of a few seconds intensifies the suspense as you wait to see if the would-be rescuer has the physical strength to lift the helpless to safety or will they slip through their grasp like in the movie, “Cliffhanger or “The Guardian.”

The point is, there is a beauty, a strength, a sense of security when two hands are clasped together, almost as if God Himself made our hands to fit inside the hand of another by design. I know there are few things I enjoy more than when I am able to take my wife’s hand in mine as we walk together. It makes no difference to me if it’s only 100 yards from our car through the parking lot at Dodger stadium or for miles along Cayucos beach. There is a deep sense of security, a strength and comfort that comes from holding her hand. It’s no wonder Jesus uses that imagery in describing our relationship with He and the Father.

Salvation isn’t based upon your ability or mine to hold on to Jesus but rather to trust in Jesus strength to hold us firmly when we place our lives in His hands. We are so secure in Jesus grasp that Jesus Himself declares in John 10:28-30, “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one."

Yes, loved one, you are safe in Jesus strong hands. If by chance you find yourself in need of being rescued today, call upon the name of the Lord. Rest in God’s unfailing love knowing that though you and I might not know what the future holds we do know who holds the future. The key to enjoying greater peace in the midst of life’s trials and seemingly cliff hanging situations we might find ourselves in is seeing God’s hand in everything you are going through, and knowing everything you are going through is in God’s hand.

“…Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior…”

Isaiah 43:1-3

I LOVE YOU!
