Opportunity Knocks
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:15–16
There is an old saying, “Opportunity Knocks” and it’s true. Every day there are opportunities before us to make a difference in other people’s lives. In 2 Corinthians 5:16 the apostle Paul makes an interesting statement, “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.” Paul wasn’t concerned with the color of someones skin nor their gender. What the apostle Paul saw in very human being was a soul that was either saved or one that was lost.
When we see people the way God sees people the opportunities really are limitless for us to minister to them. If those we come in contact love the Lord we have a chance to encourage them in their own journey of faith and to be encouraged by them in ours. If the people we come across don’t know the Lord we have a chance to plant and water knowing it is the Lord who gives the increase. We can’t forget our encounters are opportunities to win people to ourselves with the hope of winning them to Christ. I have yet to hear of someone winning a person to Jesus Christ who didn’t first win others to themselves.
I believe the people loved Jesus because they came to understand how much Jesus loved them. What I have discovered in my own journey of faith is most people aren’t opposed to Jesus as much as they are opposed to people who are opposed to Jesus. In other words, when we love people in Jesus name, thats pretty hard to miss or resist. When we love people trying to get something from them, most people have a sense they are being used and they resist and reject it. Most people like to buy things but few people like to be sold anything.
Opportunity is knocking today to serve Jesus, to know Him and to make Him known. Don’t miss your chance by focusing on the wrong things. Seek first the kingdom of God and all the other things will be added unto you Jesus said. Lets not miss our chance to serve people in Jesus name!
“And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Mark 9:35
