In His Hands

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

Studying chapter 9 in the book of Romans a song my wife shared with me a few years ago by Casting Crowns, “In The Hands of The Potter”  comes to mind. It’s easy to doubt or question God when you don’t understand what the Lord is doing and why a song like this is comforting when the trials of this life overwhelm you. It’s a beautiful song that reminds us that when your world is breaking you, God’s love is shaping you, and the enemy is afraid of what you are becoming in Jesus! The song goes like this…

I still remember when I heard You call me by name
I'd follow You anywhere, knew I could trust You in anything
But now sorrow beats down on me, waiting for You to come through
I'm all alone with my questions, I'm dry and cracked open
And I thirst for You
And as I fall apart
Come flood this desert heart
Fall like the rain, Living Water
And I know Your way is best
Lord, help me find my rest
And I'll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter
My world is spinning, my life seems so out of control
Nailed, scarred hands tell the story of love that will never let go of me
Through the sunshine or rain, I know where my hope is found
What You started in me, I know You will complete from the inside out
And as I fall apart
Come flood this desert heart
Fall like the rain, Living Water
And I know Your way is best
Lord, help me find my rest
And I'll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter
My world is breaking me, Your love is shaping me
And now the enemy is afraid of what You're making me
When my world is breaking me, Your love is shaping me
And now the enemy is afraid of what You're making me
My world is breaking me, Your love is shaping me
And now the enemy is afraid of what You're making me
And as I fall apart
Come flood this desert heart
Fall like the rain, Living Water
And I know Your way is best
Lord, help me find my rest
And I'll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter
And I'll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter (song ends)

The apostle Paul writes to remind us in Romans 9:20, “But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?" What we need to do is like the song says, “And I know Your way is best, Lord, help me find my rest, And I’ll be the clay in the Hands of the Potter.” After all, God’s Word is clear on this, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Isn’t that what the song is communicating to us, “My world is spinning, my life seems so out of control, Nailed, scarred hands tell the story of love that will never let go of me, Through the sunshine or rain, I know where my hope is found, What You started in me, I know You will complete from the inside out.”

Don’t forget, in whatever you are going through remember you aren’t going through it alone. God Himself is with you and He has promised to never leave you nor forsake you. You are safe in the hands of the Father as well as in the hands of the Son. You could say you have double protection so rest in the Lord recalling to your mind the words of Jesus when He said,

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one."

John 10:27-30

I LOVE YOU!
