How To Have A Great Day

“The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Lamentations 3:22–24

Would you believe me if I told you there is one thing that I have discovered in all my years of counseling that the happiest and most content people I have met say they do each and every day without fail? The habit that happy and content people exercise each day is what I like to call “intentional gratitude”. They give thanks every day as they count their blessings. Some actually do it literally taking inventory of their possessions, their relationships, their physical and mental health. Some make lists by writing them down while others do it by taking mental inventory each day and then purposefully sit before God each morning thanking Him personally as the true giver of each and every blessing we receive.

Hopefully you are thinking to yourself, How can I develop the habit of being thankful? Let me ask you a question that might help you. What if you wake up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for today? Would I wake up with anything? Would asking ourselves that question each day help us become more thankful? I believe it would. If you and I could learn to cultivate a mindset of being thankful each day I am certain each of us would become much more aware of just how fortunate we truly are by the ample reasons all around us to give thanks.

I believe that Gods hearts desire for us is that we be a people who are genuinely thankful because He knows when we are thankful we are most content too. The reason we are content is because we don’t live in fear of not having enough. God says to give thanks in every situation we find ourselves in because God lacks nothing and we belong to God, we don’t lack anything either as His children. Our relationship to God ensures that, “my God shall supply all of your needs by His riches and glory in Christ Jesus.”

Don’t worry, be happy today! Take time, sit down, look around, look within and count all your blessings and give thanks. Thank God, thank others and discover for yourself the secret to being happy and content. Keep the question at the forefront of your mind to help, “what if I woke up tomorrow with only the things I thanked God for today.”

“Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!”

I LOVE YOU!
