The Christmas Promise
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
Christmas Eve I walked outside to play with my dog and a rainbow suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I had never witnessed the birth of a rainbow before. It was surreal to say the least and got my mind going a million miles an hour as I considered the promises of God and His faithfulness to deliver on all of them, some against such impossibilities no one could question the miraculous origin. The Bible is filled with promises, something like 8,810 promises with over 7,487 made specifically to mankind. If you are wondering what the first promise made in the Bible is, its found in Genesis 3:15 where God says to Adam and Eve, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
The first promise God makes is the virgin birth of the Messiah who would be born of a woman but have no earthly father as the child would be conceived by the Holy Spirit making this child 100% man and 100% God. Christmas is the fulfillment of that promise. Whats so amazing about that first promise and its realization is it took thousands of years to bring it to pass. God is faithful to every promise He makes concerning me and you. We can trust and count on God and not just at Christmas time.
Let this Christmas remind you of the faithfulness of God in fulfilling all of His promises and for securing our salvation by sending Jesus Christ to be born into this world. Its only fitting that Jesus be the first promise of God and for being the last promise of God too. If you are wondering what the last promise in the bible is its found in the book of Revelation in the very last chapter and in the second to the last verse where Jesus is quoted as saying, “He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly” (Revelation 22:20).
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23
