The Real Deal
“who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power”
Hebrews 1:3
At Christmas time there is a huge market for “knockoff” items. You know the kind, copies of expensive items sold for a fraction of the price. The largest market for knockoffs again this year are women’s hand bags and purses, sunglasses and designer label clothing. From a distance they might all look the same. Its when you examine them up close you find out they are cheap imitations.
Are you aware that no one ever claimed to be the promised messiah until after Jesus Christ was born into this world? It wasn’t until Jesus came did the imitations begin. And Christmas is the time of year the world celebrates the real deal, when God Himself came to earth in human form to pay the ultimate price to redeem us back to God. It makes sense then why some are opposed to the celebration of Christmas and seek instead to promote the imitation.
When Jesus walked the streets of Jerusalem, it was God walking in Jesus. Jesus is the real deal the writer of Hebrews tells us in chapter one verse three, “He’s the brightness of God’s glory, and the express image of His person.” The Father never leaves the throne; He’s always on His throne, but expresses Himself through Jesus. No wonder Jesus said, “He who has seen me, has seen the Father”.
How did the disciples know Jesus was the real deal? John walked with Jesus and saw up close and personal all that Jesus said and did and came to draw a number of conclusions about Jesus. John saw Jesus healed the sick, caused the lame to walk and the blind to see. Jesus spoke like no one before Him. He spoke with authority. John witnessed Jesus calm the seas and the wind and walk on water. John enjoyed a meal with the 4,000 and the 5,000 that Jesus fed with just a couple of fish and a few loaves of bread. John was with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration as well as His crucifixion. But most important, John was there when Jesus rose again from the dead just like He said He would.
John came to know personally that Jesus is “the Word of Life”. John 1:1-4 captures God’s revelation to John best, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” Yes, John is declaring that Jesus is the real deal and everything and everyone else who claims to be the Messiah is a cheap imitation. Don’t settle for less this Christmas, receive God’s best, receive Jesus Christ. Open the gift salvation by opening your heart to God and enjoy the forgiveness that only Jesus can provide.
“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily”
Colossians 2:9
