Saved By A Baby

“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:21)

Jesus saves, plain and simple. Thats what He was sent into this world to do. It was His mission, His purpose for being born. The name Jesus means "Savior." It is the same name as Joshua in the Old Testament. And it is given to our Lord because He came to save His people from their sins. Just think, we are saved by a baby!

Thinking of Jesus birth into the world reminds me of a story about a woman who was diagnosed with tuberculosis. As the months went on her tuberculosis worsened and in those days it was a serious illness that took a long time to recover if it didn’t kill you. In her case it seemed the tuberculosis cavity was just getting bigger and bigger. In just a few months she was clinging to life. On one of her appointments she told the doctor that she was feeling sick and had become nauseated almost daily which the doctor found unusual and ordered testing to be done which included a pregnancy test.

During her examination the doctors also noticed that the woman’s tuberculosis had ceased growing. The x-ray revealed that the tuberculosis cavity had in fact stopped growing. The reason it stopped growing the doctors concluded was the woman’s diaphragm was pushing against her diseased lung as her body was making room for the baby growing within her. The doctor wrote on the women’s chart, “it was the child that saved her.” Amazing!

What was true for this woman is true for us. We are saved by the baby. After all isn’t that what Christmas is all about. The baby Jesus, born of the virgin, the Son of Mary, the Son of God born to save the world from sin. Keep that in mind this Christmas. The baby Jesus came to save each of us from the sin that otherwise would kill us. Thank God for His most amazing gift. Open your heart to Jesus and invite Him to come inside. Its His presence within us that drives out the sin that seeks to kill us. Jesus not only saved with His miraculous birth into this world. Jesus is still saving people, young and old alike miraculously every time someone places their hope and trust in Him. After all, what was true then is still true today…
