You Are HERE.

Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will thank you forever and ever, praising your greatness from generation to generation.

Psalm 79:13

Speaking with a fellow believer who recently had a surgery that he was told by his physical that he could have easily died in the process was sharing with me the impact the whole experience had on his life. He told me that he worked in sales, but that he had begun to reevaluate his life. He said, “You know, I’m beginning to wonder if I should be doing this anymore? I’m wondering what I should do with my life.” Like many people who have what they believe to be a near death experience and who consider themselves to be followers of Jesus, it’s not unusual to question the reason for our existence as we become more aware of the brevity of life.  

This particular gentleman had become more aware of the fact that God spared his life and now was beginning to be believe that God had in fact put him on this earth for a reason. He asked me what I thought and my answer was simple. I told him what I would tell anyone. I said, “God put you here to glorify Him. That is why we are all here.” I always appreciate when someone comes to the point in their life when they realize that life is more about significance than it is about success, purpose and not pleasure.

This idea may come as a revelation to some people, because many believe they exist to pursue personal happiness. If the truth be told, that is not why we are here. As the book of Colossians teaches, we all were created by God and for God, we are here to glorify Him, period. Don’t wait until you experience a life altering event to get your attention and cause you to question as to why you are here. Open up your bible and read discover it for yourself. Don’t take my word for it, take Jesus word as He Himself tells us in John 15:8,

“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit”
