Fear Is The Fuel of Faith

“He will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 31:8

Almost daily I receive an email, a phone call or a text from someone dealing with fear and almost daily I try to remind those struggling that God knows we have a disposition to be fearful and is why there are more than 365 “fear nots” in the word of God. The bottom line is this. We either fuel our fears or use our fears as fuel. The Word of God calls us to choose the later. Everyone faces fear at some point in life, it’s unavoidable. It’s what we do with our fears that determines much of our success and failure. Someone once said, “fear has two meanings, forget everything and run or face everything and rise”. Fear casts a large shadow but in reality fear is small and for good reason, fear apart from godly fear is nothing more than what the acrostic claims, “False Evidence Appearing Real”. The enemy of your soul wants nothing more than for you to be gripped by fear because he knows full well everything we want in this life is on the other side of fear, which is love.

Thats right, on the other side of fear is love just as 1 John 4:18-19 teaches us, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.” What keeps people from pursuing love? Overwhelmingly the answer is fear. What keeps people from pursuing their dream job or that dream house or dream whatever? The answer is fear, be it fear of failure, the fear of rejection, the fear of being alone or just the fear of the unknown. The bottom line fear shackles us and imprisons us and robs us of the life Jesus came to give.

How do we overcome fear is the million dollar question? And the answer is much simpler than you may think. Having a personal relationship with God and trusting in His promises is the best way to conquer fear. God Himself reminds us in Isaiah 41:13, “For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’” How can you fail, what do you have to fear if God is with you? No one and nothing is the answer. Fear is either the fuel that brings us to God or our fear is the fuel the enemy will us to keep us from God. Thats why the Bible instructs us to do something with our fears, to get rid of them as soon as possible, casting them upon God. 1 Peter 5:7 says it plainly, “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” Why hold onto your fears when God invites you to let them go?

The more you know God, and trust in His promises the more you will understand how big God is and how little our fears are in comparison to Him. Every time you cast your cares on Jesus your understanding of how much He cares for you grows. Because God cares for you don’t fuel your fears any longer with worry and doubt but instead, use your fears as fuel to bring you to the Lord where we can enjoy the promise Jesus Himself made…

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

John 14:27

I LOVE YOU!
