Be Proactive
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God”
1 Peter 4:10
Speaking with Rebecca I kept reminding her that she was standing at a threshold each day and that she would do well to be proactive and choose if she was going to step in and move forward and find the security and shelter that she longs for or would she step out and backwards and be subject to the storms outside. One of the most proactive things you and I can do today is refuse to look back but instead to focus on what lies ahead. There is an old saying that says, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Often times the first step is the most difficult and yet we mustn’t forget that, “Little changes lead to big differences”.
In my own life I can get overwhelmed by the thought of change so I try to begin with the end in mind and understand the process in order to achieve the results I am hoping for, recalling that the result is simply the sum total of all its parts. As I was trying to help Rebecca I could tell she was overwhelmed about her life so I attempted to help her by encouraging her to focus on one thing at a time, to take baby steps as it were.
Success in life is often times realized because we are proactive and not reactive especially when it comes to relationships. Here’s something to try today, “do for one what you wish for all.” Probably not earth shattering news today but it could be life changing for everyone involved. There is an old saying that goes like this, “I went to church looking to find a friend and found none. I went to church to be a friend and made many.” Jesus tells us the best way to minister to people is to simply treat them the way that we ourselves would want to be treated. It’s known in scripture as the “Golden Rule” and is found in Matthew 7:12, “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
The bottom line is this, be the change you want the world to see. You just might be the only the Bible the world ever reads. Seize the day, loved one. Don’t live life in response to what is going on around you, but instead take the initiative as you pray and read God’s Word. Plan your work and work your plan, keeping in mind, “prior proper prayerful planning prevents pitifully poor performance”. Prayer never changes God but it always changes you and me! Let your love for God change the world, and don’t let the world ever change your love for God.” C.S. Lewis said it best, “If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next.”
“Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
