The Greatest Comeback

“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen”.

Revelation 1:7

The Greatest comeback in human history to date is the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when He rose again from the grave defying all the odds. The second greatest comeback has yet to take place but one that those who have placed their hope and trust in Jesus Christ long for when Jesus returns to this earth at His Second Coming. What a comeback that will be! The good news is, Jesus victory can be yours and mine if we place our hope and trust in Him!

My wife and I enjoy sports and if you enjoy sports one of the things that makes watching or participating so enjoyable is how often times they mimic life. Whether you play or watch your favorite team or player very long and you are certain to come to a career crossroads where an injury or health issue will sideline you. Some of the best stories surrounding the world of sports are the ones that involve drama in real life, where the athlete faces what most would deem insurmountable odds and someone finds the grit, the determination to rise above and return to their former glory or to achieve something beyond anything they even thought humanly possible.

Every summer since the early 2000’s my wife and I find ourselves glued to the television watching professional cycling’s Tour de France bicycle race. Our favorite racer quickly became Mark Cavendish who was ridding for a team from San Louis Obispo. He looks like our oldest son and his birthday is just one day before his birthday making the connection for us even more special. Mark was considered the fastest sprinter in the world, a title he would enjoy for many years to follow. As life would have it, right when he was close to becoming the rider with the most stage wins in the Tour de France history Mark met his first major setback of his career when he was involved in a crash on the second day of the three race breaking his collarbone forcing him to withdraw from the race. The next year he would come down with what could have been a career ending illness that would keep him out of cycling and force him into retirement.

Refusing to quit even though he had reached the pinnacle of professional cycling as a sprinter he was determined to make it back to his former glory, a feat that would be nearly impossible due to the fact that professional cycling for a sprinter is a young mans sport and being in his early thirties now makes him one of the old men of the peloton. Today, the greatest comeback of Mark Cavendish’s cycling career was realized when he won stage 4 of this years Tour de France. Winning today brings to mind a promise you and I have from God Himself who tells us in His word in Galatians 6:7, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” For Mark Cavendish today the reaping was a stage victory on cyclings biggest stage, as well as the culmination of years of blood, sweat and tears.

No matter what you are going through today just know there is a comeback in your future if your hope is in Christ. Your life won’t end in defeat, death won’t have the final say. Your legacy is one of victory, one for the record books, part of the greatest comeback of all time! Put your hope in God!

“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place”

2 Corinthians 2:14

I LOVE YOU!
