Get Enlightened Not Frightened

“He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.”

Psalm 103:7

Are you aware that everything happening in the world today is talked about in your Bible? Everything from pandemics to rioting, it’s all there and more. Read Matthews gospel account regarding the end times or last days in chapters 24-25. Bible prophecy was given to us not to frighten us but enlighten us and not to scare us but to prepare us.

What the world needs today more than ever is more prophets not politicians. Men and women of God who boldly stand proclaiming God’s Word in a world that is desperately looking for answers. Politicians for the most part, if you listen to them at all, respond to life’s problems after the fact. Politicians don’t lead the way in society, they merely respond to current events which often times leaves them and us as the old adage declares, “a day late and a dollar short.” It was Martin Luther King Jr who once said, “The church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state, but rather the conscience of the state. It must be the guide and the critic of the state, and never its tool. If the church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority.”

In Psalm 103 we read how God told Moses in advance what He was going to do, where as the children of Israel would come to understand the plans of God looking back, after the fact. The apostle Peter at the end of his life pens these words in 2 Peter 1:19 (ASV), “And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts.”
When Peter describes the Scriptures as “a more sure word of prophecy”, he is talking about the infallibility of Scripture, meaning that God’s Word is without fault and without error, period. Not only is the Bible’s teachings and doctrines without error, but so are the geographical, historical, and scientific instructions it bears. The Word of God is sure because it’s infallible in every way. Jesus said it best, “heaven and earth will pass away but My Word will never pass away.” And it doesn’t end there with the infallibility of scripture. God’s Word, because it’s infallible is also sufficient.

Your Bible and mine are sufficient for all our needs, for in our Bible we have the doctrines of salvation. Everything is right there in scripture teaching us all that we need to know on how we must be saved and how we are to prepare ourselves for the life to come. Because God’s Word is infallible and sufficient we can trust God’s Word completely for our daily living. We can rest in God’s Word, finding peace and comfort and joy in His faithfulness as we learn to walk in His great light.

Because life is eternal in the presence of God or outside it in Hell, life goes on, with us or without us. We are not here on earth to make history, we are here to proclaim it. That’s what prophecy is, history told in advance. Just like Peter knew Jesus was coming again because He was there on the Mount of Transfiguration and saw Jesus in all His glory. You and I have the sure Word of God reminding us daily that Jesus is the Alpha and Omega and that He has laid out a plan for our lives long before the world was ever created. That’s why God’s Word illuminates the path in front of us, not behind us and is why Peter calls the Scriptures, “a light shinning in a dark place.” This world is getting darker day by day which only makes the light shine more bright.

Don’t look back, look up! Get in the Word of God and let the Word of God get into you so you will know, “your past can be forgiven, your present situation managed because your future is secure!” Jesus is coming soon! Are you ready?

“He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”
