You Be Jesus

“Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”

1 Corinthians 11:1

I have to laugh because I can relate to the story of the Mom who was fixing breakfast for her two young sons one Saturday morning. Johnny the older brother was seven and his younger brother Bobby four. As the first plate of pancakes were set in front of her two hungry tikes each grabbed for the plate and began to tug and pull not wanting the other to get the first batch of pancakes. As voices escalated to a screaming pitch this young mother thought the moment would provide a good opportunity to inject a little bible study into a life lesson.

Calmly the wise Mother reached across the table and retrieved the plate from between her boys and asked them a simple question, “What do you think Jesus would do?” Suddenly the room became silent as they considered the question. Now with undivided attention this Mom spoke to her boys, “Don’t you think Jesus would want his brother to have the first batch of pancakes?” Hopeful as she stood waiting for a response her oldest son Johnny looked at his younger brother Bobby and said, “You be Jesus” and then he grabbed the plate back from his Mom and began to eat.

Maybe you can relate to little Johnny’s response or maybe not but the point is this. Today will provide each of us the opportunity to imitate Christ, to follow in His steps. One of the best ways each of us can imitate Jesus today is by preferring others over ourselves. That might be as simple as holding a door open for someone else to go first, or maybe allowing the car next to you on the road to get in front of you and not behind. It’s not the big things that make the biggest difference, it’s the hundreds of little things we can do that mean the most and what people remember. There will be many opportunities to prefer others today and each time we do we are doing what Jesus would do if Jesus was here. But then again, each time we do what Jesus would do, He is here, living through me and living through you!

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16

I LOVE YOU!
