Opportunity Knocks

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

Ephesians 5:15–16

I like the old saying, “Opportunity Knocks” because it’s true. Every day there are opportunities before us to make a difference in other people’s lives. Me and a couple of our staff members are meeting with a coffee consultant from Arkansas this week who is teaching us much about the coffee business as we set out to create a new ministry opportunity within our community to assist ministries and businesses and individuals all around the world. I am overwhelmed by the unlimited number of opportunities to help people that present themselves each day.

Besides seeking to roast specialty coffee’s and serve great tasting beverages, hot or cold or over ice our number one goal is to create an environment where the focus is on customer service. We are not trying to get into the coffee business, coffee is just the cover for us to serve people. Everyone enjoys going to a place where they are served and cared for, valued and appreciated. That’s really our ultimate goal in this new endeavor, coffee is just the hook we are going to use to reach people.

In 2 Corinthians 5:16 the apostle Paul makes an interesting statement, “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.” Using Paul’s concept as the basis for a new business we don’t see people as coffee drinkers as much as we see them as people who either know Jesus as Savior or they don’t. The coffee business is just one exciting way for us to engage people in conversations about life. The team we are assembling to work together in our coffee business wants more than anything for people to be in heaven one day. Coffee is just a product that around the world creates an opportunity for those who share it to sit face to face and engage in meaningful conversation with others.

When you see people the way God sees people the opportunities really are limitless to minister to them. If they are followers of Christ, serving a cup of coffee is like providing a drink to a weary traveler. Life is hard and having a place where people can go and relax and be refreshed and encouraged, thats exciting. If the people coming into the Coffee House don’t have a relationship with God we truly believe something is missing from their lives and our hope is to say and do something that brings life to them. We believe where Jesus is so is life. This is where serving and caring for others comes in. We believe people loved Jesus because they came to understand how much Jesus loved them. What I have discovered in my own journey of faith is most people aren’t opposed to Jesus as much as they are opposed to people who are opposed to Jesus. In other words, when we love people in Jesus name, thats pretty hard to miss or resist. When we love people trying to get something from them, most people have a sense they are being used and they resist and reject it. People in general like to buy things but few of us like to be sold anything.

Opportunity is knocking today to serve Jesus, to know Him and to make Him known. Don’t miss your chance by focusing on the wrong things. Serving a great cup of coffee is important to us but not nearly as important as the person we are seeking to serve the coffee too. Lots of lessons to learn today for us all, just remember, opportunity is knocking today to focus on people not on products. Don’t miss your chance to serve people in Jesus name!

“And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them,  “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”

Mark 9:35

I LOVE YOU!
