Be You

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11

My wife enjoys watching the Disney production, “The Greatest Showman” that was about the life of P.T. Barnum who was a visionary who rose from basically nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation most of us know today as Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. I read a quote yesterday on the anniversary of his death attributed to Mr. Barnum as saying, “No one ever made a difference being like everyone else.”

Another quote comes to mind as I think of that one, “we are all born originals but most of us die copies of someone else.” Are you aware today that God created you as an original and not only an original but as a masterpiece? God created you as a one of a kind, not a copy of someone else. Ephesians 2:10 says, “we are God’s masterpiece created in Christ Jesus for good works.” God didn’t create you to blend in, you were born to stand out so don’t let the world squeeze you into its mold. Take the apostle Paul’s words to heart today when he writes in Romans 12:2, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” In other words, Be You!

Live like the high rope walker who takes every step by faith but knowing there is a net below to catch them if they fall. As followers of Christ we can walk by faith through this life knowing that the Lord Himself will not only catch us if we fall, but better still promises to keep us from falling as the book of Jude makes clear. Like P.T. Barnum learned numerous times over the course of his life, “failure isn’t final, nor is success.” We must keep going and keep growing if we are to become all that the Lord has for us. After all, “He who has begun this good work in you is faithful to complete it.” Let God have His way in you today! Don’t be a copy, be an original, be God’s masterpiece! Be You!

“For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another
