The Helpers High

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”

Matthew 6:25-27

Happy Friday! Are you aware that many people around the world look forward to the weekend so they can relax, take their mind off work and focus on themselves. For some that in itself is a kind of high while yet others will literally be looking to get high this weekend as they will be off work and can use the extra day to recover before having to go back to the grind on Monday. God offers us a much safer and more effective and long lasting way to experience a high we don’t have to come down from.

First let me say this. One of the greatest killers of joy in our lives and what keeps is stress and is why many do in fact live for the weekend. Thats why the Bible speaks so much to the issue of stress in our lives and how to get rid of it. Read Matthew 6:28-34 for yourself and see how having a relationship with God helps to eliminate the stress life can have upon each of us, “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Countless clinical studies show a direct link between anxiety and worry and depression. As believers it’s ok to be concerned, but worry, worry is sin because it demonstrates we are not trusting God. Jesus tells us one of the keys to worry free living is to focus on our attention on today and take life one day at a time for the simple fact that worry doesn’t add a second to your life but can rob you of minutes and hours, days and weeks, months and years when we do. There is an old saying that goes, “worry won’t make you live longer, only miserable.”

Do you want to enjoy a natural high that isn’t limited to the weekend? A high you can experience seven days a week? Out of all the highs a person can experience in life the ultimate high is ours when we choose to serve others. It’s called the “Helpers High”. And the best part of the “helpers high” is it also how we overcome stress and worry too. Four simple steps that you and I can take today to get the most out of life, to get the “Helpers High”  and rid ourselves of worry and stress at the same time.

4 Steps To The Helpers High
1. Do something for someone that has a greater need than you.
2. Step 2. See step one
3. Step 3. See step two
4. Step 4. See step two

There you have it. Look around today, get the focus off of you and look for someone else with a greater need today and do something for them expecting nothing in return. Its in these moments we experience the “Helpers High” and a satisfaction so deep that brings God glory and for others good. Heres to a worry free weekend!

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

Philippians 2:3-4

I LOVE YOU!
