Our Secret Weapon

“Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”

Psalm 107:1

It’s no secret that the greatest weapon in the Christian arsenal by far is prayer. Prayer is our direct access to the very throne of God. Are you aware of our secret weapon? A very powerful weapon to defeat the enemy of our soul is gratitude. Gratitude is powerful in the life of the child of God. Whatever your hardship in life is, gratitude from a grateful heart might just be the weapon of choice you need to employ to experience victory. We all go through dark days this side of heaven so we do well to remember the words of the prophet Isaiah 61:3 regarding the power of praise from a grateful heart, “To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”

All through the Bible we read when the children of God faced trying times and they recounted the goodness of God in their lives and the blessings He has bestowed upon them the oppression of depression and dissatisfaction was lifted. Most often we think of King David who God said was a man after God’s own heart. It’s easy to see why. David genuinely appreciated the goodness of God. Some remember King Hezekiah who sought the Lord and appointed worshippers to praise and give thanks to God and in doing so brought revival to the land. Who can forget the one leper who was among the ten Jesus healed but the only one who returned to say thank you. What worked then still works today for He who called you is faithful, being the same yesterday, today and forever.

Try it today. Take a moment and think back. Remember the faithfulness of God. Count the blessings in your life today. Look around and take it all in, the big things and the little things too, the good and the bad. Talk to God, tell Him how much you appreciate what He has done for you. Start at the Cross thanking God for sending His only begotten son to save you. Thank Him for giving you life and for sustaining you. Think of the people who God has placed in your life along the way who have loved you and cared for you, provided for you and prayer for you. Give thanks to God today for them.

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Psalm 103:2–5

I LOVE YOU!
