What The World Needs Now

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1

What America needs now more than ever is men and women of faith and not just because “Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible.” A person doesn’t need a telescope to see that our country is in a downward spiral of moral depravity. The Bible teaches us that any and all sin is worthy of death and that all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory and yet that truth wasn’t meant to silence us from condemning sin or speaking out against it. On the contrary, because sin affects us all, we are called to identify it and seek to eradicate it from our lives, not embrace it, and by all means don’t legislate it.

Today more than ever we need people of faith to navigate the darkness the leaders of our country are steering us into day by day. The old scientific experiment of the frog in the kettle has become a way of life in America. The only difference today is, you and I are the frog. Due to the acclimation by our media, educational and most of all, our governmental agencies, open blatant sin which is abominable to God is portrayed as not only an acceptable way of life but is so celebrated that even followers of Christ no longer seek to jump from the boiling waters.

Romans 1 could not be more clear about the path our country is on and why men and women of faith are needed desperately before all hope is lost. The apostle Paul writes beginning in verse 28, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

One thing we know as a divided nation is “like kind attracts like kind” and the more solidified the world becomes in sin, the less likely they will be open to hearing the truth and ultimately will do anything and everything possible to silence it. Let’s be clear, there is no such thing as wisdom apart from God. Knowledge is obtainable by anyone who wants it and we have very knowledgeable people in government but very few wise, as wisdom is a gift from God to those who seek Him, to those who retain Him in their seeking knowledge. The consequences of the lack of wisdom could not be more clear than they are in Romans chapter 1. A person would have to be blind not to see the similarities between the Roman Empire of the apostle Paul’s day and the United States of America today.

What’s the cure you might be thinking? Retain God in your knowledge. Run every decision you make through the lens of scripture, hold up your choices to the light of God’s Word. You might not be aware of this fact but did you know our very first congregational meeting when the United
States was formed began with a four hour prayer meeting and bible study and only a one hour congressional meeting? What made America great was our leaders were committed to, “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” Our founding fathers understood the importance of faith in every day living and that true faith comes from the Word of God. Faith was never intended to be a “private matter” as some would make it out to be. Our countries founder’s made no distinction between what we have come to call “the separation of church and state” as they fully understood that God intended all along that our faith would shape every decision we make and not the government. The freedom of religion was not meant to be interpreted as “freedom from religion”. Our founders knew first hand the perils of government mandated religion as well as the consequences that befall a people who fail to recognize and honor God. Faith is the assurance of what we are hoping for because what we are hoping for as a country founded on “In God We Trust” is the will of God to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Pray for our newly elected president and each and every member of his administration that they would become men and women of faith for the simple reason…

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6
