A Thrill of Hope

“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Luke 2:11

If there is anything the world needs this Christmas more than anything else it’s “A Thrill of Hope.” The words “a thrill of hope” come from the song Holy Night. I think most would agree 2020 has robbed many people of the thrill of hope for the simple fact they have placed their hope in the wrong things. If we have learned anything from this global pandemic it’s to never put our hope in things that can break, change, or die but instead to place our hope in things that never change, can’t break, and won’t die. There is only one thing comes to my mind when I think of what doesn’t change, break or die and that is God Himself. He never changes and His power is omnipotent and He forever lives so placing our hope in God is the only place we can be assured we won’t be disappointed. The Bible promises that those who put their hope in God will not be disappointed.

If the thrill is gone from your holiday this year take some time and go back and read the Christmas story and reflect on the difference Jesus Christ has made in this world. I think you will find like I have that every where God’s finger prints or footprints are there is always a thrill of hope for the simple fact that with God all things are possible!

As you read the lyrics below let the birth of Jesus into the world sink deep within your soul. Try to imagine if you will what it was like in that moment when our Savior was born into this world and how the news began to spread that God was with us and the world as it was known then was about to change forever as with the birth of Jesus hope was born! Wherever Jesus is hope is too!

Holy Night

O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels' voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divine

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels' voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divine (song ends)

Jesus birth provides for us a thrill of hope in that all the prophetic promises of God regarding the Messiah and our salvation, restoration, regeneration and glorification are coming true! With every thought of what Jesus birth brings with it, a greater thrill of victory is realized. Christmas has never been about what mankind could do for God but rather what God in Christ can do for those who hope in Him.

Put on some Christmas worship music today and sit back and close your eyes. Get caught up in the moment as you meditate on the lyrics sensing a thrill of hope like a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees and hear the angels voices proclaim, “O night divine, O night when Christ was born.”

"And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.”

Psalm 39:7

I LOVE YOU!
