Peace On Earth

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”

Romans 5:1

Are you aware that the greatest conflict the world has ever known is not World War I or II or the Korean War, or Vietnam? Not even all the wars that have taken place on a battlefield add up to the number of casualties that the war within the human heart has claimed. Thats right, the greatest battle to ever face humanity is the battle that rages within every human heart, every soul. That is the meaning and the purpose of the angels announcement that we read of in Luke chapter 2, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14).

Jesus was born into this world to make peace with God on our behalf so that we could enjoy the peace of God. Jesus was born to win, to win the battle for our souls. Romans 5:10-11 puts it like this, “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.”

All one needs to do to enjoy peace with God which brings with it the peace of God, is to receive Jesus Christ as ones personal Savior and Lord. Nothing in this world can compare to the moment when the weight of the sin that so easily entangles us is lifted from us. It will make you want to sing! The song Hark The Herald Angels comes to my mind. There is so much great theology in many of our Christmas carols and I am certain this Christmas favorite will be on many lips this month. May the words sink deep within your heart today and may you enjoy the peace that only a life with Jesus can truly bring!

Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled

Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!

Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel

Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!
Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth

Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV)
