Just Say Yes

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”

2 Corinthians 1:20

I love to say, ‘yes’ when my grandkids ask me to do something. I love the look on their face when they hear ‘yes’ when they think I am going to say, ‘no’. From reading my Bible I find that God loves to say ‘yes’ to His children, especially when it comes to spending time with us. God is always ready to listen, eager to help each and every time we cry out to Him. Reading a social media post from one of my favorite pastors, he was sharing about how quickly our children grow up and that is hard to imagine how fast the time actually flies by. In his post he was sharing how he made an internal promise to himself that he tries to live by that when his kids ask him to do something that might be inconvenient or silly. He tries to say ‘YES’ as much as possible because he knows years from now he will never regret having said ‘yes’ to doing something fun, creating a memory or just sharing a silly moment with his kids.

This pastor realized like most dads our first reaction when we are busy or tired is to say, “no” or “maybe later” when our kids ask us to do something, believing the lie that we will have more time later on. That usually isn’t the case and what we come to discover is that time with our children is one of life’s most precious gifts because no sooner do you blink, they are grown and on their own.

Dad’s, Mom’s, grandparents too, let me encourage you today to say, “yes” as often as you can before saying “no” when your kids or grandkids or even your friends ask you to do something with them, even if you are tired or busy. Stop what you are doing, and make spending time with them your priority. Trust me in this. Not only will you make a lasting memory, you will be modeling the kind of relationship that God desires all His children would come know. After all, Jesus prayer for me and you in John 17 is that we get to be with Him and He with us forever, and forever is a long time to get to be together!
