If I Could Live My Life Over Again

“in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Have you ever thought or dreamed about what it would be like if you could live your life over again? I mean like you could pick a point in your life and go back to that moment in time and relive your life over from that moment forward. I enjoy hearing people share what they would do differently. The possibilities are endless. None of us can go back and change the past but each of us has the ability to change the future. There is an old saying, “the best time to plant a shade tree was 25 years ago while the next best time is today.” Today, the bible tells us that the mercies of God are new every morning and great is His faithfulness.” Today is a new day and the possibilities for you and me really are endless as with God’s help nothing is impossible because like the apostle Paul declared, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

So, seriously, have you ever thought is there was one thing that if I did it every day would change my life for the better for ever? Maybe you have thought there can’t possibly be one thing that you could do that would make that big of a difference in your life in just one day. The good news today is, there is! If we would just simply do this one thing every day consistently starting today our lives would be forever changed for the good. The Bible teaches us that being thankful, having a heart of gratitude does in fact change our lives for the better each time we express our gratitude, be it to God or other people.

Try it today and see if it doesn’t change you. Count the number of times you say, “thank you” today to God and to others. Romans chapter 1 makes it perfectly clear behind every creation there is a creator and every design there is a designer, whereas James chapter 1 makes it equally clear behind every gift there is a giver! Romans chapter 1 teaches us that when people become thankless they open themselves for a world of hurt where just the very opposite is true in the heart of a person who remains thankful. Each time we are thankful and express it we open ourselves up to be and to receive a blessing!

Think for a moment about the people in your life who you enjoy blessing and doing things for or giving gifts too. I bet they are thankful. Think of the people you know who aren’t high on that list and I am willing to bet they are most likely not very grateful or thankful. Yes, there is something magnetic about a grateful heart, there is power in a simple ‘thank you’ that motivates us to want to do more for them. Don’t forget the words of the half brother of Jesus who wrote, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17). It’s true, behind every creation there is a creator, behind every design there is a designer, and behind every gift there is a giver! God is the ultimate giver and today there will be countless opportunities for us to recognize God’s goodness and to say thank you to the Lord and as well as to those who are created in His image.

The most grateful people I know are those who are living their lives in humble awareness and appreciation of the Father seeking to be a refection of the One who has given the world the greatest gift when God gave us His only begotten Son to die for us on Calvary’s Cross. You don’t need to go back in your life to enjoy the life you have always wanted to live. Just start fresh today by being thankful to God and looking for the chance to express an attitude of gratitude every step along the way! And know this, I am very thankful for you!

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 136:1

I LOVE YOU!
