You Are A Best Seller!

“You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men”

2 Corinthians 3:2

As a pastor I get the privilege to sit with couples periodically and discuss marriage struggles and so I understand when a woman says something to me like, "You know how it is for women. We grow up dreaming of a fairytale marriage and life." And then as they continue, many times through tears they share about how their own marriage and a life (in their eyes) is anything but a fairytale. The whole time I am thinking to myself, “what a story this is going to be!”

I remember back to a time when a woman used the word "fairytale" and then started crying when describing their situation only to look up to find me smiling. I didn’t think what she was sharing was funny and I had to bite my tongue as I wanted to wait for her to finish giving me all the horrific details about how bad she believed her life had become before I shared with her the good news.

When she finished sharing her story I first began by apologizing if it seemed like I was being insensitive and appeared happy listening to her pain. In reality I was just excited for her. I proceeded to ask her what her definition of a fairytale was and if she would explain what a fairytale is, and as she spoke I took notes. When she got done with all the intricate details of her life and explaining what a fairytale is I said with a big smile, "You have the making of a great fairytale story here." She seemed perplexed at first.

I went on to explain what makes a fairytale great is just when the story can't seem to get any worse it does and then when life seems hopeless prince charming shows up and rescues you and whisks you away to paradise where you live happily ever after. I told this woman she was right on the verge of her very own fairytale life so not to give up now. The story of her life, like each of our lives is made up of chapters. That’s why its so important to not place a period where God puts a comma. Just because one chapter of your life or even more are laced with pain, sorrow and suffering doesn’t mean the story is finished. What this woman failed to realize and what many of us forget is God has the final say.

The good news of the Gospel is so good it sounds like a fairytale in that Jesus Christ, our redeemer, came and lived and died and rose again from the grave to show the world that He is capable of saving all who come to Him by faith, not by fairytale. The Good News of the Gospel is Jesus is preparing a place for us to be with Him in glory and He is coming back one day to take us home to be with Him. Better than a fairytale, its 100% true!  The best chapters of your story are still to be written so don’t give up hope! You are the making of a best seller!

“clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.”
