The Third Option

“And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”

Joshua 5:13-14

Have you ever considered that the thing that holds you back more than anything else is the way you think? We all have blind spots and even the most intelligent among us have a limited perspective. It’s why the Lord invites us to come and reason together with Him. Most of us have heard the expression, “I’m my own worst enemy” and for many of us, its true. There’s good news today! The mercies of God are new this morning! That means today is full of endless possibilities and opportunities if only we would consider the “third option”.

God created us with the ability to think and to reason. We were raised for the most part to see things as either black or white, right or wrong. It was no different in Jesus day. One day as the disciples were walking along with the Lord they came upon a situation that to them was an “either or” option. They didn’t know the answer but they quickly established the perimeters of the possibilities. They never considered the third option. To them the answer was sin. They just didn’t know whose sin. Was it the sin of the blind man or was it the sin of his parents that caused the man to be blind from birth they asked Jesus? John 9:1-3 gives us the details, “Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.”

Jesus presented to His disciples the third option, maybe what had happened to the man born blind had nothing to do with sin at all. It appears that the third option was God’s intention all along. I don’t know about you but the third option is what makes life exciting to me. Like the message on the passenger side rear view mirror where my car has a small inscription that says, “things are closer than they appear” God is closer to you today than you might feel or think. We tend to ask a lot of “why” questions compared to “why not” forgetting all the while that just maybe the reason we are going through whatever it is that we are going through is so that the works of God can be revealed in us. God never wastes a hurt!

The devil wants you to think that everything that happens to us in life is either because of our own sin or someone else’s. Today however, Jesus wants you and me to consider the third option. Everything has a reason, as there is a purpose for everything under heaven Solomon wrote in the book of Ecclesiastes. Today, look for God’s hand in everything you are going through. Remember, God is with you, He’s in you and everything He does is for His glory and our good. Yes, loved one, today is the day to consider the third option and endless possibilities of our omnipotent God.

“For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Luke 1:37

I LOVE YOU!
