Jesus Is Our Rainbow

“I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.”

Genesis 9:13

Every book of the Bible reveals Christ to us, be it in types and shadows in some while in others perfectly clear. It’s been well said, “In the Old Testament the New Testament is concealed and in the New Testament the Old Testament is revealed. Take the rainbow for instance. The rainbow is a type of Christ as it foreshadows God’s most beautiful display of His love and faithfulness to the world when He gave His only begotten Son on Calvary’s Cross.

God didn’t promise us that storms would cease to plague the earth. What God did promise was to never again use the flood waters to destroy all the earth. Flood waters still bring death and devastation in their wake but the damage floods are capable is limited as God is faithful to His word, and the proof is in the rainbow.

And just like flood waters, sin continues to ravage our fallen world and though death and devastation are in its wake, Jesus is our rainbow in that the promise of God’s faithfulness remains! Even if our bodies are destroyed, God will raise us up to new life! Death looms over all of our lives like a dark storm cloud and yet because Jesus was lifted up for us on Calvary’s Cross we have a promise from God that death does not have the final say. The storms of life will still come our way bringing the winds of despair, fear and doubt but nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. Jesus is our rainbow, the faithful promise of God that we will not be destroyed, but saved.

The next time you find yourself in the midst of a life storm, don’t just look to the clouds for a colorful sign from God, look instead up into the heavens to God who fashioned the rainbow and is capable of calming both the wind and the sea. Better still, God has promised that one day He himself will come through those same clouds to deliver us all who look and long for His appearing. Yes, loved one, Jesus is our rainbow!

“I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire.”

Revelation 10:1

I LOVE YOU!
