Holy Moly, Just Look At You!

“and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

Ephesians 4:24

You don’t hear the term holy like you use to when I was growing up. I remember thinking when I was a kid that being holy was something only the priest could be or maybe a nun, but not me or you. Yet the Bible makes perfectly clear that God has called each of us to holiness. As a matter of fact being holy is a command of God, not an encouragement to do better or try harder. In it says in 1 Peter 1:6, “Be holy as I am holy” and in Hebrews 12:14 the writer adds this, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” Holiness is the beauty mark of heaven. Heaven is holy because it is compete in every way lacking nothing. Isn’t that one of the reasons we call it heaven. It’s perfect in every way, totally satisfying and completely fulfilling. Because heaven is holy there will never be any need there.

And the same goes for me and you. When we reach heaven one day it won’t be because we were perfect here on earth. If that was the case we wouldn’t need heaven. Heaven is heaven because Jesus is there for the same reason hell is hell is because Jesus isn’t there. We say things with regard to being with people we love, “having you here made it complete” and its never more true than when we think about being in the presence of God in heaven one day. It’s been well said, “you will never be more alive than the day you die” (that is if Jesus is your Lord and Savior) for on that day we will put off our flesh and step into our resurrected body as we await glorification with all the saints one day.

Holiness is the process of becoming complete. In God’s eyes because He is not bound by space or time sees us as we will ultimately be one day, holy, complete in every way, lacking nothing. For now, you and I rest in the process as we walk with Jesus day by day. Holiness is the work of God in our lives as we put off and put on each day. Like getting dressed and undressed during the course of our day, holiness is the transformation process God takes each of us through to put off the flesh and to put on the fruit of His Spirit. Embrace the change, loved one, taking hold of holiness and letting go of this world, and all the things of this life, holding onto God for the very purposes He has laid hold of you. Remember, holiness is not some act that you perform, holiness is who you are because of whose you are. He is holy and as a child of God, by relationship to Him, that makes you and me holy too.

“that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”

Ephesians 5:27

I LOVE YOU!
