Choose Right
"Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
Joshua 24:14-15
Have you ever been faced with so many options it made it difficult to choose? Choice can be overwhelming at times in an information and technology age. It’s not just that we have the freedom to choose that’s important, its the basis of our choices that will impact us most. Everyone makes choices. What differs greatly from person to person is the “why”. In Joshua 24 we read about a dialog that the Patriarch of Israel was having with the nations leaders reminding them to make every decision a spiritual choice. Joshua understood what you and I do well to always keep in mind. The best choices you and I can make for our families and ourselves are ones that lead us to a reverential fear and humble submission to the will of a loving God.
The point Joshua was making is that it’s not just choosing that matters most, it’s choosing right. Joshua challenged the nation of Israel to make decisions based on their personal commitment and dedication to God knowing if they did that Gods promised reward for the right choice would be the blessing of the entire nation.
Like Joshua, choose this day in whom you will serve knowing that every choice has a reward or consequence. Keep in mind with every choice you make today that if we choose to honor God there is blessing that comes with that, and if we choose to disobey Him we are choosing cursing instead. The best choices are the ones we make in humble submission to God. Not all choices are good choices and that’s why we need to choose prayerfully and carefully. The good news for us is God has given us a Helper to weigh the options before us so we could make the right choice. The right choice is always the choice of blessing where we choose to serve the Lord and to fear Him only!
"Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD!”
